Injectable skin and hair quality

Mesotherapy in Dubai — skin glow, mesohair and an honest look at what works

Mesotherapy delivers a tailored cocktail of hyaluronic acid, vitamins and amino acids into the superficial skin through a series of fine micro-injections. As a course it can genuinely improve hydration, brightness and overall skin quality. But the evidence varies a lot by cocktail and by indication, and not every claim made in a Dubai brochure holds up. Here is what is well supported, what is weaker, and what a session actually costs.

01 — What it is

Mesotherapy is a cocktail of actives placed into the superficial dermis, not a single licensed product.

Mesotherapy is a technique rather than one fixed formula. A practitioner uses a series of fine micro-injections to deposit a tailored "cocktail" into the superficial dermis, the upper living layer of the skin. The cocktail typically combines hyaluronic acid for hydration, vitamins and amino acids to support the skin's metabolism, antioxidants, peptides, and in some formulations plant extracts. The aim is to hydrate, brighten and improve overall skin quality from within, rather than to fill a line or relax a muscle.

There are three main uses, and they are quite different in how well the evidence supports them. Facial or skin mesotherapy targets glow, hydration, fine lines and dull, tired-looking skin. Mesohair, or scalp mesotherapy, targets early hair thinning and is often paired with PRP. Meso-fat targets small, localised pockets of fat on the body, and this is where the evidence is genuinely weak. Aggressive "fat-melting" claims should be treated with caution.

One detail matters more than the marketing: the quality and licensing of what is being injected. Because mesotherapy uses mixed cocktails rather than a single regulated product, the formulation can vary widely between clinics. Insist on a DHA-licensed clinic that can name the licensed products it uses. If a clinic cannot tell you exactly what is going into the cocktail, that is a reason to look elsewhere.

02 — The three types

Facial mesotherapy, mesohair and meso-fat — three uses with very different evidence.

Facial / skin

Glow, hydration and skin quality

The best-supported use. A hydrating cocktail led by hyaluronic acid, with vitamins and antioxidants, is delivered across the face to improve hydration, radiance and the look of fine lines and dull skin. Results build over a course rather than from a single visit, so think of it as a quality reset rather than a dramatic change. Cocktails are also marketed for tired, shadowed under-eyes, though our guide on how to get rid of dark circles in Dubai explains why the underlying cause matters more than the treatment. For a single licensed-product alternative, compare it with skin boosters such as Profhilo.

Mesohair (scalp)

Early hair thinning support

Micro-injections of a scalp cocktail, which may include vitamins, amino acids and growth-supporting actives, aimed at early thinning and a healthier scalp environment. It is most reasonable for early-stage shedding and is frequently combined with PRP, which uses your own blood, for a stronger overall protocol. It is a support measure, not a cure, and advanced or patterned hair loss needs a proper medical assessment first.

Meso-fat (body)

Localised fat, weaker evidence

Marketed for small, stubborn pockets of fat. This is the use to approach with the most caution. The evidence for "fat-melting" mesotherapy is weak and inconsistent, results are unpredictable, and outcomes vary widely between clinics and formulations. If body contouring is the real goal, it is worth discussing better-studied options with a physician rather than committing to a course on the strength of before-and-after photos alone.

05 — FAQ

Mesotherapy questions.

The honest answers, including where the evidence is thinner than the marketing suggests.

How many mesotherapy sessions do I need?

Mesotherapy is a course treatment, not a one-off. A typical starting protocol is 4 to 6 sessions spaced every 2 to 4 weeks, followed by maintenance sessions every few months once you reach the result you want. A single session can give a short-lived hydration boost, but the visible improvement in skin quality builds over the course as the cocktail is delivered repeatedly. If a clinic promises a dramatic change from one visit, treat that as a marketing claim rather than a clinical expectation.

Does mesotherapy actually work, or is it hype?

It depends entirely on the indication. Facial mesotherapy for hydration and overall skin quality, and mesohair for early thinning, are the better-supported uses, and many people see a genuine improvement in glow and skin condition over a course. Meso-fat for body contouring is the weak end of the spectrum, with inconsistent evidence and unpredictable results. The other variable is the cocktail itself, which is not a single regulated product, so quality and licensing vary between clinics. Ask exactly what is being injected and insist on named, licensed products.

Mesotherapy or skin boosters like Profhilo — what is the difference?

Skin boosters such as Profhilo and Restylane Volite are single, licensed products with a defined formulation and clinical data behind them. Mesotherapy uses mixed cocktails that vary by clinic. In practice, Profhilo and other skin boosters tend to be more predictable because you know exactly what is being delivered, while mesotherapy is more customisable. For pure, reliable hydration many practitioners lean towards a licensed booster; for a tailored cocktail with added vitamins and antioxidants, mesotherapy has a place. The right choice depends on your skin and your priorities.

Is mesotherapy or PRP better for hair?

They are different tools and are often used together rather than as rivals. PRP uses your own blood, processed to concentrate platelets, and has more consistent evidence for early hair thinning. Mesohair delivers a vitamin and amino acid cocktail to the scalp. Many Dubai clinics combine the two in a single protocol because they support the scalp in complementary ways. If hair is your main concern, start with a proper assessment and read our PRP treatment guide before committing to either.

Does mesotherapy hurt and is there downtime?

The micro-injections feel like a series of small pinpricks, and most clinics apply numbing cream beforehand to keep it comfortable. Discomfort is usually mild and brief. Afterwards you may see small bumps, redness or minor bruising at the injection points, which typically settle within a day or two. There is little real downtime, though it is sensible to avoid makeup, heavy exercise and direct sun for the first 24 hours, which matters in Dubai's heat. Always confirm your practitioner is working in a DHA-licensed clinic.
